What is it?
A compact SNES-style gamepad adapter for Apple II, implementing the Apple II’s 556 timer-based analog joystick logic with a modern thumbstick breakout. Includes both PCB and 3D-printable case designs.
Why did you make it?
Original Apple II paddles and joysticks are rare, expensive, and rely on 150 kΩ pots that are no longer made. This project brings modern controller ergonomics to vintage gaming and eliminates frustrating drift by leveraging well-documented analog timing circuits and community-tested component tweaks.
What makes it special?
Unlike basic DB9 adapters, this open-hardware GamePad offers a true thumbstick experience with two trigger buttons, fully open MIT-0 licensing, turnkey KiCAD & FreeCAD source files, and STL-ready case models—enabling anyone to build, customize, and enjoy classic Apple II games with modern comfort.
